“I have come to Reddit to share something personal with the science and mental health community. Before I share my mental health issue, I will give some pretext. I am currently attending The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T) and studying Quantum Mechanics. From a young age I had an advanced understanding of mathematics and most of all, physics. If you aren’t familiar with Quantum Mechanics, it is a fundamental theory in physics that describes physical properties of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles. While I could explain advanced Quantum Mechanics to you all, I’m going to spare you hours of reading, and explain my problem. But before I do that, I must explain Quantum Superposition. Quantum Superposition is a fundamental principle of Quantum Mechanics. Like waves, any two (or more) quantum states, they can be superposed together. The result would be a new quantum state. In simpler terms, when two or more states are combined together, they create another state. Thus, when this is repeated, it creates an infinite number of dimensions. So, if this theory is proved to be true, an infinite number of things that exist in our dimension, exist in other dimensions. By that logic, an infinite number of you and I exist, and anything that could possibly happen in the universe happens in other dimensions. This topic is what I’ve been working on for years at M.I.T. What’s driving me to insanity is the fact that there are infinite numbers of me. Meaning that my life on this earth has no meaning. I have attempted to seek help from many psychologists, but they have been no help.”
